NUDGE - ARMCHAIR
PLAGIARIST
- CD-EP - [POSTGATE RECORDS]
Originally reviewed
as a demo, this EP has been slightly reworked and is now
available on CD. Featuring two versions of "If Anything", the EP also includes
the excellent "Boys On Fire" which is one of the best locally available songs
by
an unsigned band.
This track captures some of the spirit of The Chameleons with a bit of Blur
thrown in. It's rock solid, well written stuff that deserves a larger profile
and platform. It has an impressive Indie Chorus and Guitar Hook, which creates
that angular pop / rock sound and which helps lift Nudge head and shoulders
above a lot of other acts.
"Pistol Whipped"
is very reminiscent of Neds Atomic / meets Chameleon...good stuff -
Recorded at Suite
16 and produced by Baz Barrett, the alt-indie types studio saviour. Its ably
done. . . although the mix should have been harder and the guitars more prominent,
to really cut a bit more energy through the tracks. This is only a small issue.
Nudge are excellent live and you won't be disappointed by one of their shows.
This EP provides a fitting reminder of why, once seeing them , you should
go again.
